A Slow Food Weekend of Flavour and Stories – Reflections from Comber
Earlier this summer, Anthony travelled to Comber in County Down to participate in a special Slow Food Weekend, hosted in the walled garden of No. 14 at the Georgian House. The event was part of the Taste Summer Ards and North Down festival, bringing together chefs, growers, fishers, producers, and food advocates from across the region for two days of flavour, conversation, and collaboration.
Curated by chef Jim Mulholland of No.14 and Conal Stewart, the Food & Drink Development Officer at Ards and North Down Borough Council, the weekend featured panels, tastings, and shared meals that celebrated the values of good, clean, fair food. Anthony joined fellow Slow Food advocates Sally Barnes and Paula McIntyre MBE to open the weekend with a conversation on why Slow Food matters, especially now.
In his write-up for Georgina Campbell Guides, Anthony reflects on some of the standout moments, from Comber Earlies and wild fish to Paula’s sediment-loving apple gin liqueur and soda farls with his own Fat Tomato savoury-sweet blackcurrant butter.
