King’s Inns

Supporting the evolution of one of Ireland's most historic institutions – balancing heritage, governance and modern relevance.

The Brief

To support the continued evolution of The Honourable Society of King's Inns – Ireland's oldest school of law (est. 1541) – ensuring the institution remained relevant, resilient and outward-facing while respecting its constitutional role, heritage and traditions.

The work involved supporting leadership through periods of organisational change, strengthening communications and public engagement, modernising systems and identifying new opportunities for growth and relevance.

The Approach

The work was developed over more than a decade in close collaboration with the CEO and senior leadership team – operating as a trusted advisor across strategy, communications, institutional development and organisational change.

Rather than introducing change for its own sake, the approach focused on building from within – strengthening existing structures, clarifying direction and helping the institution evolve while remaining true to its purpose and identity.

This included:

  • shaping long-term institutional strategy and positioning

  • leading brand, communications and narrative development

  • guiding digital transformation across websites, systems and infrastructure

  • supporting business development, partnerships and new revenue opportunities

  • positioning King's Inns within legal, cultural and tourism networks

  • contributing to exhibitions, publications, events and public-facing initiatives

  • supporting leadership transitions and organisational continuity

  • navigating complex stakeholder environments across governance, education and public engagement

The work remained measured and considered, balancing innovation with responsibility at every stage.

The Outcome

King's Inns today operates as a more outward-facing, digitally enabled and future-ready institution – maintaining its historic identity while strengthening its role within contemporary Irish and international society.

The work has:

  • strengthened institutional clarity and long-term strategic direction

  • modernised communications, systems and digital infrastructure

  • expanded public engagement through events, exhibitions and cultural programming

  • supported new commercial and revenue opportunities

  • strengthened the institution's visibility beyond its traditional audiences

  • supported leadership continuity and organisational resilience

The project demonstrates how thoughtful, long-term advisory work can help historic institutions evolve successfully – balancing heritage, governance, public engagement and meaningful progress.
